Description
Selected by Oldman Spirits for its Flensburg Rum Company label, this is New Yarmouth distilled in 2015 and aged nine years from a single ex-bourbon cask at 62.6%. New Yarmouth, part of Clarendon, runs both pot and column, and this is the column side, which keeps the spirit cleaner and lighter than the estate's heavier pot-still output.
Molasses-based and unsweetened, it carries banana, tropical fruit and a fresh ester lift on the nose, then a woodier palate of spice and sour cherry before a finish of pineapple, wood spice and chocolate. The profile is classic younger Jamaican, drier and more straightforward than the unicorn casks, but honest and characterful. At cask strength it sips well with a little water and makes a robust, good-value base for a high-end mix.
