A soft Jamaican blend from Navy Island drawing on Worthy Park, Hampden and Monymusk, six years in ex-bourbon oak at a gentle 40%, with light funk, ripe banana and tropical fruit on a thinner, easy-going palate made for cocktails.
Description
This Navy Island XO blends rum from three respected Jamaican distilleries, Worthy Park, Hampden and Monymusk, aged six years in ex-bourbon oak. Despite the navy strength styling on the label, it is bottled at an approachable 40%, putting the accent on drinkability rather than power, and made without added sugar.
The nose carries the familiar Jamaican markers, ripe banana, tropical fruit and a light estery funk, with brioche and oily sweetness in the background. On the palate it is softer and lighter-bodied than the strength-driven bottlings from these houses, with barrel and gentle spice leading to a thinner finish. That makes it a soft everyday sipper but above all a versatile mixer, well suited to tropical cocktails where its fruit comes through. For funk-curious drinkers who want to meet these distilleries gently, it is an easy, budget-friendly starting point.
