Description
Miyagikyo 15 Years Old is a single malt from Nikka's Miyagi Prefecture distillery, with this expression released in 2006 and matured entirely in Oloroso sherry casks. The additional three years beyond the 12 Years Old allow the sherry wood to develop a fuller influence on the distillery's naturally soft and fruity spirit, producing something more richly textured than the bourbon-matured standard releases.
Oloroso maturation over 15 years builds dried fruit, gentle raisin and baking spice into the Miyagikyo foundation of orchard and red fruit, fresh malt and light floral notes, with the sherry's characteristic sweetness providing warmth and structure. Bottled at 45%, this is a mature, composed expression of Miyagikyo in a richer register, thoughtfully assembled from Nikka's Asahi-owned estate.
