Description
The 2017 Midleton Very Rare belongs to the annual series Irish Distillers has issued since 1984, each edition signed by hand by the master distiller at Midleton. It blends older single pot still and grain whiskeys, triple distilled at the Midleton distillery in Co. Cork, and was released for the European market.
Maturation is in ex-bourbon American oak, which gives vanilla and a soft honeyed sweetness at 40%, the fresh fruit lifted by a faint mineral note. Triple distilled and unpeated, the whiskey shows the orchard fruit and silky texture of the Midleton house, the aged grain rounding the pot still spice into a clean, gentle finish.
