Description
Released annually since 1984 and signed by hand by the master distiller, Midleton Very Rare is the prestige blend of Irish Distillers. This 2009 edition blends older single pot still and grain whiskeys from the Midleton distillery in Co. Cork, distributed globally. Though sometimes catalogued as a single malt, Midleton Very Rare has always been a blend of pot still and grain.
The whiskey matured in ex-bourbon American oak, which gives vanilla, soft spice and a honeyed weight at 40%, with a faint mineral note lifting the orchard fruit. Triple distilled and unpeated, it carries the silky texture and gentle baking spice of the Midleton house, the aged grain polishing the pot still character into a clean finish.
