Description
The 2005 edition of Midleton Very Rare, Irish Distillers' annual signed blend released each year since 1984 from the Midleton distillery in East Cork. It draws together older pot still and grain whiskey, triple distilled and unpeated, with the pot still component giving a peppery, creamy backbone under the softer grain.
Ex-bourbon American oak shapes the fruit here, all fresh apple and pear with vanilla and a light honeyed sweetness, finishing clean at 40%. It is a polished, gentle style, the Cork house character of orchard fruit and silky texture rather than dried fruit and sherry.
