Description
First issued in 1984, Midleton Very Rare is the annual prestige blend of Irish Distillers, signed by hand each year by the master distiller. This 1999 edition draws older single pot still and grain whiskeys from the Midleton distillery in Co. Cork and was prepared for the European market.
The whiskey matured in ex-bourbon American oak, giving vanilla and a light honeyed sweetness at 40% rather than heavy sherry. Triple distilled and unpeated, it leans green and fragrant, citrus and fresh orchard fruit over a soft mash sweetness, the silky Midleton texture carried by aged grain into a clean, understated close.
