A single malt from Midleton in East Cork, distilled in 1996 and bottled at 25 Years Old in 2022 by Irish Distillers. It is drawn from a single virgin American oak cask, number 28803, at cask strength, a limited event release of 153 bottles.
Virgin oak, rather than a refill or ex-bourbon cask, gives an assertive wood signature across the long maturation, pronounced vanilla, coconut and sweet baking spice over honeyed orchard fruit. Bottled undiluted at a powerful 57.2%, triple distilled and unpeated, it shows how fresh oak shapes very old Midleton malt.
