Description
Method and Madness is the experimental line from Midleton in East Cork, the engine room of Irish whiskey, owned by Irish Distillers. This 14 Years Old is the range's single malt, triple distilled from malted barley and bottled in 2017 at 46% for the European market.
The whiskey takes its main maturation in ex-bourbon barrels before a finishing spell in French Limousin oak, the tight grained oak more familiar from cognac, which lends spice and a fresh sawn note over the malt. Expect soft orchard fruit and honeyed vanilla, a hay-like freshness and citrus, closing with the light drying grip of that young oak. Unpeated and silky in the house style.
