Description
Mars Shinshu, set at altitude in Miyada, Nagano, and owned by Hombo Shuzo, distilled this single malt in 2018. The spirit matured for five years in a single bourbon barrel before being selected at cask strength at 62% by La Maison du Whisky for the French market.
The flavour profile, oily and laden with honey, malt extract and vanilla alongside a woody and faintly smoky edge, shows the character that a five year old Mars Shinshu can develop in a good bourbon barrel at this altitude. The new wood notes speak to the active wood contribution of American oak at this age, while the oily texture reflects the house distillate's weight. A single cask bottling from the 2018 vintage with no dilution.
