Description
Mars Shinshu distillery in Miyada, Nagano, sits at Japan's highest elevation for whisky production and is owned by Hombo Shuzo. This single cask single malt from the 2016 vintage was drawn from a first-fill bourbon barrel at three years old and bottled at cask strength by La Maison du Whisky as an event release.
The combination of first-fill American oak and a very young spirit produces exactly the character the data suggests: fresh fruit, vanilla cream and the vivid new-make energy of a distillate that has had limited time to settle. At 61% the bottling is uncompromising, giving a direct read of the Mars Shinshu house style in its most vibrant form from the 2016 distillation year.
