Description
Mars Shinshu, the highest distillery in Japan, sits in the Central Alps at Miyada in Nagano and is owned by Hombo Shuzo. This single malt was distilled in 2016 and drawn from a single first-fill bourbon barrel at just three years old, selected and bottled by Parisian independent La Maison du Whisky for an event release at cask strength.
First-fill American oak at this age gives the spirit direct access to wood sugars, pulling forward fresh vanilla and orchard sweetness alongside the lively, clean new-make character the Miyada site is known for. Bottled at 60% without dilution, the high elevation climate and the youth of the cask both leave their mark in the vibrancy of the liquid.
