Description
Whisky-Doris, a German house, bottles single casks at natural strength. Distilled in 1988, this 26 year old Littlemill, from cask 37 was bottled in 2014. The distillery is gone, so what survives in cask is all there will ever be.
Twenty-six years in the bourbon cask polish Littlemill's light, buttery Lowland spirit.
Bottled undiluted at 51.6%, a vanilla sweetness comes from the bourbon cask. On the palate, a savoury note. Decades of slow oxidation turned the spirit's aldehydes to acids and then to fruity esters, the ex-Bourbon adding vanilla beneath. After so long, much of the cask has gone to evaporation, the surviving spirit slowly dropping in strength as alcohol outpaces water in the humid air.
