Description
Le Contesse, near Treviso, is best known for Prosecco but also makes this Pinot based rosé spumante. The grapes are picked in late summer to hold acidity, then the second fermentation is carried out by the tank method for a fine, even bead. A period on the fine lees follows, adding a little texture and aromatic depth to a wine built around fresh red fruit. It is finished as a brut, so the palate stays dry and the berry character leads.
The wine shows a delicate rosé colour with a fine, persistent perlage. The nose is fruity and open, with wild strawberry, raspberry and red currant, lifted by a hint of rose petal and ripe white peach. The palate is fresh and harmonious, with lively structure, gentle red fruit and a clean, dry finish. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees. It is versatile at the table, good as an aperitif and with white meats, lighter fish dishes and a range of soft cheeses.
