Description
Le Contesse is a Veneto producer working across the Prosecco zone, and this DOC bottling is made from Glera in the extra dry style. The wine is produced by the Charmat method, taking its second fermentation in stainless steel tanks under temperature control, which locks in the grape's floral, orchard-fruit character rather than building toasty complexity. Extra dry carries a touch more residual sugar than brut, so the palate reads a little softer and rounder, which suits the fruit. The magnum format and gift box make it a easy choice for a celebration.
The colour is a bright straw yellow with a fine, persistent bead. The nose shows apple, pear and white flowers with a honeyed hint, and the palate is fresh and gently rounded, with ripe orchard fruit and a clean, lively finish. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees in a white wine glass. It makes a friendly aperitif and pairs with antipasti, light salads, white fish and fresh cheeses.
