Description
Laurent-Perrier makes Grand Siecle in the Champagne region on an unusual premise: rather than rely on a single exceptional harvest, the house blends several outstanding vintages to build its idea of a complete year. For the No 25 release, three vintages are brought together, led by Chardonnay with Pinot Noir from a small group of Grand Cru vineyards. The wine is made by the traditional method and then aged on the lees for around ten years, far beyond the norm, which develops deep autolytic character and a creamy texture, finished as a dry Brut.
The wine shows brilliant gold with a fine, exceptionally elegant bead. The nose is complex, with citrus, white flowers and candied fruit over toasted almond and brioche. The palate is layered and precise, balancing freshness, a saline minerality and aromatic depth, with a creamy texture from the long lees ageing and a powerful, lasting finish. Serve chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. It suits lobster, langoustines, scallops and caviar, fine fish dishes, and has the depth for truffle, veal, poultry and mature Comte.
