Description
This 16 Years Old was distilled in 1966 and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail for its Connoisseurs Choice range in 1982, one of the earliest releases of Kinclaith and a young one by the standards of this distillery. Kinclaith was a Lowland malt inside the Strathclyde grain complex in Glasgow, built in 1957 and dismantled in 1975.
Glasgow's last malt distillery ran a single pair of pot stills among the grain plant, its spirit made for Long John blends. Matured in ex-Bourbon, the wood frames this scarce Lowland malt.
Bottled at 40%. The ex-Bourbon gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for toffee, the relative youth keeping it bright against the distillery's industrial Glasgow origins. An early Connoisseurs Choice bottling of a lost malt.
