Description
This Killowen single malt spent time in a chocolate stout cask, an event release of 252 bottles drawn at cask strength and bottled at 50% from the Mourne mountains distillery in Co. Down. Beer casks suit Killowen's malty, textured spirit, and stout wood in particular trades at the dark end of the flavour spectrum.
Dark chocolate, coffee and roasted malt from the stout cask settle over the distillery's double distilled, worm tub character, cereal depth, orchard fruit and fresh oak beneath. At 50% and unfiltered it drinks like a rich porter reimagined as spirit, roasty, thick and long, and the small outturn means it was gone almost as quickly as it was poured at the event it was bottled for.
