Description
The Paddle Breaker is a single cask Killowen single malt, distilled in 2019, the distillery's first year of spirit, and bottled in 2022 at 3 Years Old as an event release of 232 bottles. Killowen, in the Mourne mountains of Co. Down, works tiny, running double distillation through worm tubs over direct fire in the old northern manner, and bottles everything unfiltered.
Cask KD032 combined ex-bourbon maturation with rye cask wood, and at a cask strength 59.3% the young malt shows both plainly, vanilla and fresh oak from the bourbon side with a peppery rye spice riding on top, cereal sweetness and green apple beneath. It is Killowen's defiant style in miniature, a three year old that drinks with far more texture than its age suggests, and there were never many to go around.
