Description
Killowen Peated Rum & Raisin does what its name promises, taking the Co. Down distillery's peated single malt through PX sherry and dark rum cask finishes after ex-bourbon maturation. Part of the Signature Style range, it was bottled in 2025 at a cask strength 55% for the European market, from the tiny Mourne mountains stillhouse that runs double distillation over direct fire.
The PX brings raisin and fig, the rum a dark molasses sweetness, and together they rebuild the old ice cream flavour in whiskey form, layered with chocolate, walnut and leather over an oily palate thick with malt extract. The peat reads warm and toasty rather than medicinal, woven through the sweetness instead of fighting it, and the full 55% keeps every layer loud to the finish.
