Description
Kill Devil 2004 is a single cask Venezuelan rum from Hunter Laing, the Scottish whisky house whose Kill Devil line bottles full-proof, natural single casks without chill filtration or additives. Distilled in 2004 and held for eighteen years before bottling, it carries the merchant-led, unsweetened approach that whisky bottlers bring to rum.
Matured in ex-bourbon and bottled at a cask strength 58.9%, this is a molasses Venezuelan in the Spanish-style mould, where column distillation gives a clean base that the barrel and the long European ageing shape. Expect the smooth, dessert-leaning Venezuelan signature of vanilla, honey and caramel, but presented dry and at full power rather than softened down.
