Description
Juveniles Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (Compass Box) is a blended malt Scotch from Compass Box. It vats malts from more than one distillery, Glendullan among them. Glendullan, founded in 1897 in Dufftown, is best known as a blending malt. Within a few years it was supplied to King Edward VII by royal request, from 1902. The founding firm merged into Macdonald Greenlees and was absorbed by DCL in 1926, a forerunner of Diageo.
The Glendullan within gives orchard fruit and a soft malt. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak gentle behind the fruity spirit. A light, clean texture from the spirit carries through the maturation. Because the long fermentation keeps the spirit fresh and grassy, the cask shows clearly with time. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit. Years in oak deepen the spirit to gold, the body growing rounder with time. Maturation runs slow and even in the warehouses at Dufftown.
At 46% it is smooth and fruity. Green apple, pear and a light grass run through it. A light orchard fruit and a soft spice give it shape. A fresh finish closes on pear and a soft oak. A characterful blended malt Scotch.
