Description
1800 Milenio sits in the luxury tier of the 1800 range from Jose Cuervo, an extra anejo distilled from Blue Weber agave at La Rojeña in the town of Tequila. It follows the usual three year maturation for the class in bourbon casks, then takes a further finish in French oak Cognac barrels, which lends the balanced, soft and distinctive character the house is after. The colour is a dark amber gold.
Bottled at 38 percent, this is a barrel forward tequila in which oak and vanilla lead the nose. The palate carries vanilla, red fruit and cinnamon, with the Cognac cask adding a layer of dark sweetness, and the finish closes on a note of mint chocolate. After more than three years in wood the cooked agave sits well behind the cask, in the oak dominant manner typical of the extra anejo class.
