Description
Caskmates began as an exchange between Midleton and a nearby brewery, with Jameson casks lent for ageing stout and then returned to finish whiskey. This Stout Edition is the result, a triple distilled blend of pot still and grain whiskey from the Midleton distillery in Co. Cork, carrying no age statement at 40%.
After maturation in ex-bourbon barrels the whiskey rests in barrels that have held stout, which draws out chocolate, roasted malt and a nutty depth alongside the vanilla of the bourbon oak. There is an old wood note and a faint smoky, husky edge, though the spirit itself is unpeated. It is a blend that wears its beer finish lightly rather than letting it dominate.
