Description
Jameson Caskmates Outland is a 2019 edition in the beer finished Caskmates line, a blend of single pot still and grain whiskey from the Midleton distillery in Co. Cork. After maturation in ex-bourbon oak it was finished in barrels that had held a Black IPA, extending the brewery partnership beyond stout into darker, hoppier territory.
The ex-bourbon base gives the familiar triple distilled Midleton character of vanilla, malt and orchard fruit, while the Black IPA casks bring a husky cereal note, cocoa and a dry, faintly bitter edge. Bottled at 40% for the German market in a run of 2,400 bottles, it is a more assertive take on the smooth Jameson core.
