Description
Jameson Black Barrel Proof is a higher strength take on the Black Barrel blend, released in 2021 in a limited run of 2,500 bottles. Made at Midleton in Co. Cork by Irish Distillers, it brings together single pot still and grain whiskey, triple distilled, with a generous share of pot still for extra body.
Maturation used double charred ex-bourbon barrels alongside sherry seasoned American oak, and bottling at 50% rather than the usual 40% lets the cask character speak more loudly. The result is oily and full, with vanilla, honey, malt and toasted old wood over the orchard fruit of the base, the deeper char adding a warm, spiced edge. The raised strength gives it more grip than the standard Black Barrel.
