Description
This is a distillery only Jameson Black Barrel, hand bottled at Midleton in Co. Cork from a single cask, number 249616. The Black Barrel blend of single pot still and grain whiskey is triple distilled by Irish Distillers and built around double charred ex-bourbon barrels, and here it appears at full cask strength.
Bottled undiluted at 60.2% in 2018, it is powerful and concentrated, the heavily charred oak pushing intense vanilla, toffee and toasted, almost smoky wood spice over the orchard fruit of the base. A single cask fill of this kind is available only at the distillery, and water is worth adding to open the sweetness beneath the strength.
