Jameson 12 Years Old, in its earlier 1780 Special Reserve form, is the aged step up from standard Jameson, a blend of pot still and grain whiskey made by Irish Distillers at Midleton in Co. Cork. This global bottling was filled at 43%, a touch above the usual strength, carrying the extra weight of twelve years in wood.
Matured in ex-bourbon American oak, the blend shows soft toffee, banana and coconut from the grain, with pot still lending orchard fruit, honey and a baking spice. Triple distilled in the Irish signature, it is smooth and rounded, unpeated, the added age deepening the dried fruit and oak. A polished everyday blend from the Midleton house.
