Jack-Crap Spirits Destileria Sofa Honest Venezuelan Rum is the first in the bottler's Single Origin series, a 15 Year Old drawn from Venezuela's Destileria Sofa and distilled on column stills. The name sets the tone: this is the country's typically smooth, dessert leaning style stripped of added sugar and bottled at a firmer 55%.

Molasses spirit and column distillation give a clean base, with the ex-bourbon oak carrying the flavour: roasted notes, polish, wood and caramel on the nose, then caramel, an oily texture, spice and wood on the palate, finishing nutty and sweet over more oak. The sweetness here is barrel derived rather than dosed, with orange and dried fruit rounding out a warm, well integrated profile. It reads as a straightforward, oak driven Latin rum that holds its strength well, equally at home as a slow neat pour or the backbone of a cocktail for drinkers who prefer their Venezuelans honest and dry.
