Isle of Jura Rare & Prestige 34 Years Old 1974

The Rare & Prestige 34 year old was distilled in 1974, in the first decade after Jura's 1963 revival, and matured in Oloroso sherry. An outturn of 658 bottles, it is a deep, sherried expression of an early-era vintage. The only distillery on the remote island of Jura was rebuilt in 1963, its tall stills set up for a light spirit.

The distillery's light, clean spirit takes sherry well over a long maturation. Matured in Oloroso casks across 34 years, the wood pulls the malt into dark, dried-fruit territory.

Bottled at 44.5%. The Oloroso gives dried fruit, melanoidins reading as fig and raisin, with tannins adding a walnut dryness. The recorded note is chocolate, over a waxy aged depth. A rare, prestige sherried Jura from the 1970s.
