Description
Douglas Laing bottled this 33 year old 1966 Isle of Jura for The Old Malt Cask, drawn from ex-Bourbon wood. An outturn of 343 bottles for Europe, distilled only three years after the distillery's 1963 revival, it is among the earliest Jura vintages in existence. Whisky returned to Jura in 1963, when the island's one distillery was rebuilt from the old ruins.
The first spirit flowed at the rebuilt distillery in 1963, so a 1966 cask is from the very start of the modern era. Matured in ex-Bourbon wood across 33 years, the cask deepens the honeyed malt.
Bottled at 50%. The ex-Bourbon cask supplies vanilla through vanillin, coconut through oak lactones, and a toffee note from maltol. Three decades have layered waxy, honeyed depth over polished oak. An exceptionally rare vintage from the dawn of the revived distillery.
