Description
ju-ar, The Yew Tree, is a 35 year old Isle of Jura distilled in 1977 and finished in Port pipes, vatted from three casks for 498 bottles. The name nods to the ancient yew on the island. The only distillery on the remote island of Jura was rebuilt in 1963, its tall stills set up for a light spirit.
The distillery's light, clean spirit benefits from a Port finish over its long maturation. Matured in ex-Bourbon and finished in Port casks across 35 years, the wine wood deepens the fruit.
Bottled at 46%. The ex-Bourbon gives vanilla while the Port adds plum and cherry with a jammy sweetness over the aged malt. Richly fruited and mellow, a Port-finished old vintage named for the island's yew. A characterful 1977 Jura.
