Isle of Jura George Orwell 30 Years Old 1984

This 30 year old was distilled in 1984 and released as the George Orwell edition, marking the author who wrote his novel 1984 at Barnhill, a remote farmhouse on Jura. The outturn of 1,984 bottles nods directly to the title. Jura is the lone distillery on the island Orwell called an extremely ungettable place.

Rebuilt in 1963 for a light, clean spirit, the distillery rewards three decades in oak. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks across 30 years, the wood deepens the honeyed malt.

Bottled at 44%. American oak from the ex-Bourbon barrel gives vanilla and coconut, with maltol lending toffee. Long years have layered waxy, honeyed fruit over polished oak. A literary-themed vintage from the island that inspired 1984.
