Description
This 8 year old Pure Malt carries the name of Charles MacKinlay & Co, the Leith blending house that funded the rebuilding of the Isle of Jura distillery in the early 1960s. A vintage bottling from the island malt's early decades, it was a release for the Italian market.
Jura was rebuilt between 1960 and 1963 to revive a fading island economy, designed for a light, Highland-style spirit rather than the peat of nearby Islay. Matured in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood frames a young, clean island malt.
Bottled at 40%. The ex-Bourbon cask lends vanilla through vanillin and coconut through oak lactones. Light and honeyed in the early Jura manner, a glimpse of the distillery's first decades under the MacKinlay name. A collector's bottle.
