Description
This 21 year old was released in 2010 to mark 200 years since the founding of the original Jura distillery in 1810. Matured in ex-Bourbon and Oloroso casks, it was an anniversary outturn of 1,200 bottles for Europe. The island of Jura has just one distillery, rebuilt in 1963 to revive a community that had lost its trade.
The original distillery closed in 1901 and lay in ruins until the 1963 revival, so the bicentenary spans both eras. Matured in ex-Bourbon and Oloroso casks over twenty-one years, the woods give a sherried depth to the honeyed malt.
Bottled at 44%. The ex-Bourbon gives vanilla and coconut, the Oloroso fig and raisin from its melanoidins with a walnut dryness. Honeyed, sherried and mellow, a fitting marker of two centuries. A bicentenary island twenty-one.
