Description
This 10 year old Isle of Jura was matured in Oloroso sherry wood, a sweeter and darker expression than the ex-Bourbon norm. Jura sits alone on its Inner Hebridean island, revived in 1963 by two local landowners to keep the island's economy alive.
The distillery was designed to make a lighter malt than nearby Islay, its tall stills giving a clean spirit that takes sherry well. Matured in Oloroso casks, the wood pulls the young malt towards dried fruit and nuttiness.
Bottled at 40%. The Oloroso gives dried fruit and a nutty depth, melanoidins reading as fig and raisin. The recorded notes run to a nutty sherried character, chocolate, malt sweetness, dried fruit and vanilla. A sweeter island ten.
