Description
Invergordon is the most northerly grain distillery in Scotland, set on the Cromarty Firth in Easter Ross, with almost all of its output going into Whyte & Mackay's blends. This single cask was bottled by Wilson & Morgan, distilled in 1987, at 28 years old, for its Barrel Selection - Special Release range. Single cask number 903169 yielded 550 bottles, released for Italy.
Invergordon runs column stills over fifty feet tall on a maize and wheat mash, producing the soft, sweet grain spirit that forms the base of Whyte & Mackay's blends. Matured in an Oloroso sherry cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 56.5%, without dilution, the Oloroso wood adds dried fruit, with melanoidins reading as fig and raisin and tannins giving a walnut dryness. Recorded bottle notes run to a cooked vegetable note. Invergordon's light grain core keeps it soft and sweet through a long vanilla finish.
