Description
Wein- und Sektkellerei Inführ has produced sparkling wine at Klosterneuburg for over a hundred years and is one of the most awarded houses in Austria. Le Grand Rouge is an unusual thing, a fully red sparkling wine built from 100% Zweigelt. The second fermentation is carried out in pressurised tanks by the Charmat method, which keeps the bright red fruit of the grape to the fore, and the wine is sealed under natural cork. At around 28 grams per litre of residual sugar it sits in off-dry territory, giving a rounder, softer style than the house's white Sekts.
The colour is a deep ruby. The nose and palate are led by ripe cherry and dark berry fruit, with a creamy edge and a fine bead running through. The finish is long and gently sweet. Serve lightly chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It stands up to fuller food than most sparkling wine, working with roast poultry and pork, game dishes, spiced cheeses and hearty pasta.
