Description
Hinch Distillery Co. of Ballynahinch, Co. Down follows the old bonder path while its own spirit matures, and this Small Batch release is a rarity in Irish whiskey, a peated blend. The liquid comes from the two Co. Louth engines of the independent revival, Cooley and the Great Northern Distillery, married without an age statement and bottled in 2024 for the European market.
First fill bourbon casks set down vanilla and honey before Oloroso sherry wood folds in dried fruit and a walnut edge, with heather smoke from peated malt drifting through, a style Cooley revived when Irish peat had all but vanished. Bottled at 43%, it drinks as a gentle introduction to smoke in an Irish accent.
