Description
Batch 2 of Hinch's imperial stout finish belongs to the distillery's Craft & Casks series, whiskey handed to casks that held strong Irish stout. The base is a 4 Years Old Irish blend matured in first fill ex-bourbon casks at the Co. Down house outside Ballynahinch, finished in ex-imperial stout casks and bottled for Europe in 2023.
Stout casks are generous with whiskey, and the imperial version doubly so, dark chocolate, espresso and roasted barley wrapping around the blend's toffee and vanilla core. Bottling at 46.4% keeps the roasted bitter edge lively against the sweetness, and the finish lands on cocoa and a gentle hop dryness. It is a young whiskey, honestly presented, that wears its beer influence proudly rather than hiding it.
