Description
Cask 7896 pairs mature Irish single malt with one of the most respected names in rum. The malt was distilled in 2017, before Hinch's own Co. Down stills came on line in 2020, and the Ballynahinch house matured it in a cask from Foursquare of Barbados, bottling a single cask run of 342 bottles in 2024 for the Dutch market.
Foursquare casks bring a distinctive sweetness, demerara sugar, banana and clean spice, and over the 7 Years Old malt they build a dessert sweetness without smothering the orchard fruit underneath. Bottled at its cask strength of 48.2%, the whiskey keeps real grip, honeyed and tropical on the palate with a peppery, warming finish. Single cask Irish malt with credible rum wood remains a scarce combination, and this one wears it lightly.
