Description
Hibiki 40 Years Old is an ultra-aged Suntory blend released in 2024, drawing on 40-year-old malt from the Yamazaki distillery in Osaka Prefecture and the Hakushu distillery in Yamanashi Prefecture alongside deeply matured grain from Chita in Aichi Prefecture. Bottled for global release, it represents the upper tier of the Hibiki age-statement range and reflects the depth that extended maturation produces in Suntory's stocks.
Matured in American oak and mizunara, the blend carries the signature sandalwood and temple-wood incense of Japanese oak alongside the deeper honey, dried fruit and subtle spice of four decades in the barrel. The Hakushu malt contributes a faint herbal note that prevents the palate becoming solely dense, while the Chita grain gives structure and length. At 43%, it is resolved and layered, arriving at a natural balance after its long time in wood.
