Description
Henkell is one of Europe's best-known sparkling wine houses, based at Wiesbaden with more than 160 years behind it. Halbtrocken is its off-dry Sekt, made from a cuvée of selected white wines and produced by the Méthode Charmat, the second fermentation running in pressurised tanks to give fine, long-lasting bubbles and keep the fresh fruit clear. A short spell on the fine lees adds a creamy edge to the mousse, while the dosage is set higher than the Trocken for a softer, gently sweet finish that suits sweeter food and easy sipping.
The colour is a light golden yellow with a fine, even bead. The nose brings ripe apple, pear and white peach over a soft floral and honeyed lift. The palate is soft and rounded, the gentle sweetness balanced by fresh acidity, with a fine mousse and a fruity finish. Serve well chilled at 5 to 7 degrees. It works as a fruity aperitif and pairs with fruit desserts, cakes and pastries and lightly spiced dishes.
