Description
Henkell has produced Sekt in Wiesbaden since 1856 and Trocken is its best-known wine, a consistent dry sparkler blended from international base wines. It is made by the tank method, with the second fermentation in pressure tanks rather than bottle, a choice that keeps the fruit fresh and the style light and immediate. Trocken here indicates a dry finish with a touch more dosage than Brut, and this three litre format scales the wine up for a party or a large gathering.
The wine is a pale straw yellow with a brisk, fine bead. The nose is fresh and direct, leading with apple, pear and lemon over a light floral note. The palate is dry and crisp, the fruit clean and the mousse lively into a short, refreshing finish. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees in a flute or white wine glass. It works as an aperitif and alongside salads, white fish and shellfish, and slips easily into a celebration.
