Description
Hazelburn was introduced as a distinct style in 1997, created to represent an unpeated, triple distilled interpretation of Campbeltown whisky. The first official Hazelburn bottlings appeared in 2005, the same year this whisky was distilled, making this cask a direct product of the range’s earliest years.
Distilled in August 2005, the whisky spent its full 19 years maturing in a Tawny Port hogshead before being bottled at 48.3% ABV, at natural cask strength. The outturn is limited to just 294 bottles, with no added colouring and no chill filtration.
The triple distillation gives the spirit a rounded, composed structure, while the port cask contributes measured depth rather than overt sweetness. On the nose, dried fruit, red berries and gentle sweetness sit alongside polished oak. The palate is balanced and textural, showing ripe orchard fruit, vanilla, light caramel and restrained fortified wine notes. The finish is long and clean, with drying oak, soft spice and lingering fruit.
