    Single Malt

    $31249

Distilled at Hanyu in Saitama in 1986 and finished in a Pedro Ximenez sherry butt after 23 years, this single cask single malt was bottled at 55.4% cask strength for Germany in 2009, where the PX richness would have folded deep raisin and fig notes over the Ex-Bourbon base.

Hanyu 23 Years Old 1986 is a single cask from the closed Hanyu distillery in Saitama Prefecture, distilled in 1986 under Toa Shuzo and bottled in 2009 by Ichiro Akuto from the rescued Hanyu stocks. The German market release is cask strength at 55.4%, reflecting the concentration built across more than two decades in wood.

The cask history moves from Ex-Bourbon to a Pedro Ximenez sherry butt finish, a pairing that typically delivers a deep sweetness of dried figs, prunes and dark molasses over the lighter vanilla and cereal character accumulated in the first fill bourbon years. With no individual tasting notes on record, the Pedro Ximenez finishing here would be expected to dominate the finish, giving a long, sweet, richly fruited close at natural proof.
