A chili-infused Hampden single cask bottled under Planteray by Maison Ferrand, pairing classic tropical esters and glue with a genuine hot-sauce kick, honey and pepper running into a hot, peppery finish, bottled unsweetened at 53.1%.
Description
This Hampden single cask, bottled under the Planteray label by Maison Ferrand, takes a roughly nine-year-old Hampden and adds a deliberate chili, hot-sauce twist. Hampden in Trelawny distils entirely on double-retort pot stills and is the benchmark for high-ester Jamaican funk, here distilled from molasses in 2016 and matured in ex-bourbon, the core spirit still clearly recognisable beneath the novelty.
The nose is dominated by Hampden character, tropical fruit, ester, glue and pineapple, while the palate folds in chili and honey alongside the tropical fruit, and the finish turns peppery and genuinely hot. Bottled at 53.1% and unsweetened, the spice is divisive but most found it fits the estate's loud fruit surprisingly well. This is an offbeat, conversation-starting pour for drinkers who already love Hampden funk and want something playful, a bold tasting-room curiosity rather than an everyday sipper.
