Description
This Mhoba is a Habitation Velier bottling, part of the Pure Single Rum line that showcases pot still spirit from a single distillery at full proof and without additives. Mhoba is a small South African producer working from its own cane, and this unaged release captures that raw material at a formidable 66.2%, presented in the line's familiar botanical livery.
The nose is fresh and faintly savoury, sugarcane and fruit lifted by an olive, briny note. The palate brings estery fruit, citrus and more fresh cane, finishing salty, citrussy and clean. For an unaged overproof it drinks with surprising poise, the cane character full and the esters present but gentle rather than wild. It shines stretched into a cocktail yet stays sippable neat, a fresh, characterful white for drinkers who enjoy clear, cane driven rums with a touch of funk.
