A seven year Indian pure single rum from Amrut, bottled by Habitation Velier at cask strength 62.8%, a pot still single cask with coconut, dried fruit, figs and caramel over a warm, woody, leathery finish.
Description
This Habitation Velier release bottles Amrut, the Bangalore distillery best known for its whisky, as a pure single rum, the line Velier reserves for pot still, single distillery, full proof spirit. It is a 2015 vintage aged seven years in ex bourbon oak, a single cask released for Whisky Live Singapore at cask strength, 62.8%, in the unsweetened Habitation Velier style.
Pot distilled and matured under Indian heat, it shows dried fruit, coconut, fresh and dried figs on the nose, then coconut, caramel and dried fruit with a sweet edge on the palate, closing warm, woody and intense with leather. The tropical ageing drives plenty of oak extraction into a comparatively young rum, giving weight and a leathery depth that the high strength carries well. A drop of water opens further floral, mango and cinnamon notes. This is a characterful look at Indian pot still rum from a serious bottler, dense and warming, suited to drinkers who enjoy bold, high proof single casks.
