Description
Gran Padre is a reposado built for drinkers who want an agave forward alternative to the usual big names, made from Blue Weber agave and rested closer to the blanco end of the rested spectrum. The quartered agave hearts are roasted for thirty six hours in stone hornos, then pressed with a roller mill, fermented in the stainless steel tanks typical of tequila using the house yeast, and twice distilled before reduction to 40%.
Eight months in American oak barrels lend intense oak, vanilla and cinnamon to the nose, alongside notes of banana and almond. The palate is soft and supple, carrying a touch of vanilla and spicy undertones with a faint smoky edge that the producer notes as a point of difference. The short oak time keeps the cooked agave clearly in play, whether sipped neat or built into a margarita.
